China Mobile, being the largest mobile network and telecommunication operator in China, is another successful example of transformation from government organization to a totally market driven enterprise. The Group has more than 497 Millions subscribers on its network across all major provinces of the country. In 1997, China Mobile was successfully listed in Hong Kong (HKSE 941) and New York Stock Exchange. The Company is with the second largest market capital in Hong Kong Stock Exchange and being ranked as one of the world Fortune 500 companies.

China Mobile GuangDong Branch is the largest branch of China Mobile in terms of both revenue and subscribers, it supervises 21 cities mobile companies.
Business Challenge
China Mobile GuangDong Branch is experiencing fast growth in her business as well as her organizational structure. Various computer systems have been developed to cope with the management needs in various departments. However, there is no single access portal, user has to access each application through different login without a centralize access control management, and messages generated from various systems cannot be centralized and delivered to appropriate users.

On the other hand, information distribution is also a challenge as the organization grew to a certain size. Deliver right information to the right person at the right become a difficult tasks by using traditional email. Hence a centralize Enterprise Information Portal solution is proposed, however, the portal system shall be flexible for the Client to built company portal as well as departmental portals, yet in a centralized manage system.
Solutions

With the Microsoft SharePoint technology, we had delivered an Enterprise Information Portal solution to the Client, in which, we had built company portals and department portals for the Cities Level Mobile companies, such Guangzhou Mobile, Shenzhen Mobile. The solution has integrated with the Integrated Application Platform, which is a middleware-powered Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the back-end. The key portlets available in the EIP are applications login with single-sign-on, information dispatcher, shared calendar, messages interface, to do list, to read list, document sharing, forum, photo album …etc. And in the later stage, it has been enhanced to cover some workflow applications.

By implementing the Enterprise Information Portal, staffs of the Client can now easily access the right information in a timely manner, they can just look up the message box to find all the related messages from all kinds application concerning them without going though each application one by one. Sharing of document and ideas are also become easy through portal discussion forum and public folders. As each department can develop their own portal pages, it enhances the development of corporate and departmental culture.
